Condition Monitoring Using Computational Intelligence Methods: Applications in Mechanical and Electrical Systems

Condition Monitoring Using Computational Intelligence Methods: Applications in Mechanical and Electrical Systems
Product DescriptionCondition Monitoring Using Computational Intelligence Methods promotes the various approaches gathered under the umbrella of computational intelligence to show how condition monitoring can be used to avoid equipment failures and lengthen its useful life, minimize downtime and reduce maintenance costs. The text introduces various signal-processing and pre-processing techniques, wavelets and principal component analysis, for example, together with their uses in condition monitoring and details the development of effective feature extraction techniques classified into frequency-, time-frequency- and time-domain analysis. Data generated by these techniques can then be used for condition classification employing tools such as: • fuzzy systems; rough and neuro-rough sets; neural and Bayesian networks;hidden Markov and Gaussian mixture models; and support vector machines.

Application of SVM and ANN for image retrieval [An article from: European Journal of Operational Research]

Application of SVM and ANN for image retrieval [An article from: European Journal of Operational Research]
Product DescriptionThis digital document is a journal article from European Journal of Operational Research, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
This paper presents a new, scaling and rotation invariant encoding scheme for shapes. Support vector machines (SVMs) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) are used for the classifications of shapes encoded by the new method. The SVM classification accuracy rate is 95.9@?2.9% in 14 categories and 79.2@?2.1% in 40 categories. This shows that SVM is one of the best tools for classification problems. The experimental results showed that SVM achieved better performance than ANN. A sensitivity test is performed to show that SVM is quite robust against different parameter values. In addition, our coding method is comparable to previous coding scheme in terms of SVM and ANN performance.

Google Art Image used for Obama Adobe Illustrator Vector Graphic by Atlanta Artist Corey Barksdale

    http://www.coreybarksdale.com/media_kit/barksdale_media_kit.pdf

Atlanta artist Corey Barksdale creates a step by step vector graphic of president Obama in Adobe Illustrator. Google Images is utilized to search for images of president Obama and Uncle Sam. The Google images are imported into Adobe Photoshop and merged together from various layers. The merged version is then opened in Adobe Illustrator where the final vector graphic is created. Hope for positive change and peace is the focus. The final vector graphic can be enlarged to what ever size imaginable without losing any resolution. I would like to see this image on the side of a building.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor developed and marketed by Adobe Systems.
The latest version, Illustrator CS4, is the fourteenth generation in the product line. Numerous new features include multiple artboards in a single document, a “blob brush” that is similar to the brush in Adobe Flash, and support for transparency in gradients among other features.

    Versions CSCS4
Illustrator CS was the first version to include 3-dimensional capabilities allowing users to extrude or revolve shapes to create simple 3D objects. To reflect its integration with the Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator CS2 (version 12) was available for both the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It was the last version for the Mac which did not run natively on both Intel and PowerPC processors.
Among the new features included in Illustrator CS2 were Live Trace, Live Paint, a control palette and custom workspaces. Live Trace allows for the conversion of bitmap imagery into vector art and improved upon the previous tracing abilities. Live Paint allows users more flexibility in applying color to objects, specifically those that overlap.
CS3 included interface updates to the Control Bar, the ability to align individual points, multiple Crop Areas, the Color Guide panel and the Live Color feature among others.
CS4 was released in October 2008. It features a variety of improvements to old tools along with the introduction of a few brand new tools. The ability to create Multiple Artboards is one of CS4s main additions, although still not equal to the true multiple page capability of Freehand. The Artboards allow you to create multiple versions of a piece of work within a single document. Other tools include the Blob Brush, which allows multiple overlapping vector brush strokes to easily merge or join, and a new gradient tool that allows for more in depth manipulation of colors.

Google Image Search is a search service created by Google which allows users to search the Web for image content. The feature was originally introduced in July 2001.[1] The keywords for the image search are based on the filename of the image, the link text pointing to the image, and text adjacent to the image. When searching for an image, a thumbnail of each matching image is displayed. Then when clicking on a thumbnail, the image is displayed in a frame at the top of the page and the website on which that image was found is displayed in a frame below it, making it easier to see from where the image is coming.
In early 2007 Google implemented an updated user interface for the image search, where much of the information about the image was hidden until the user moused over the thumbnail.[2] This feature was discontinued after a few weeks. It is now Google Images.
On October 27, 2009, Google image search added an important and useful feature to its image search, which is called finding similar images.

Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing, Second Edition

Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing, Second Edition
    Product Description

Continuing in the footsteps of the pioneering first edition, Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing, Second Edition explores the most up-to-date signal and image processing methods for dealing with remote sensing problems. Although most data from satellites are in image form, signal processing can contribute significantly in extracting information from remotely sensed waveforms or time series data. This book combines both, providing a unique balance between the role of signal processing and image processing.

Featuring contributions from worldwide experts, this book continues to emphasize mathematical approaches. Not limited to satellite data, it also considers signals and images from hydroacoustic, seismic, microwave, and other sensors. Chapters cover important topics in signal and image processing and discuss techniques for dealing with remote sensing problems. Each chapter offers an introduction to the topic before delving into research results, making the book accessible to a broad audience.

This second edition reflects the considerable advances that have occurred in the field, with 23 of 27 chapters being new or entirely rewritten. Coverage includes new mathematical developments such as compressive sensing, empirical mode decomposition, and sparse representation, as well as new component analysis methods such as non-negative matrix and tensor factorization. The book also presents new experimental results on SAR and hyperspectral image processing.

The emphasis is on mathematical techniques that will far outlast the rapidly changing sensor, software, and hardware technologies. Written for industrial and academic researchers and graduate students alike, this book helps readers connect the “dots” in image and signal processing.

    New in This Edition

The second edition includes four chapters from the first edition, plus 23 new or entirely rewritten chapters, and 190 new figures. New topics covered include:

    • Compressive sensing
    • The mixed pixel problem with hyperspectral images
    • Hyperspectral image (HSI) target detection and classification based on sparse representation
    • An ISAR technique for refocusing moving targets in SAR images
    • Empirical mode decomposition for signal processing
    • Feature extraction for classification of remote sensing signals and images
    • Active learning methods in classification of remote sensing images
    • Signal subspace identification of hyperspectral data
    • Wavelet-based multi/hyperspectral image restoration and fusion

The second edition is not intended to replace the first edition entirely and readers are encouraged to read both editions of the book for a more complete picture of signal and image processing in remote sensing. See Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing (CRC Press 2006).
